Born in 1927 in New York City, David Newman has studied in France and Italy, executed a large sculpture commission in Florida, had shows in Florence, Pisa, Paris, Miami, Palm Beach, Washington D.C., New York City, and worked in several media, as well as written poetry and prose. Newman’s latest period is the culmination of a diversified production. The artist feels his contribution to art is manifold, as he integrates a solid sense of composition, a masterful handling of lines, textures and colors into the exploration of themes, moods and visions. Newman seeks to capture the immediacy of life, and describes his current work as biomorphic abstract expressionism. In his own words, “Pursuing the essence of a thing with the mind rather than with the eye.” Selected Exhibitions: Jewish Museum, New York City Founders’ Hall, Mt.
